Certification Europe is an Irish based, internationally focused certification, training and inspection body. Headquartered in Dublin, Certification Europe provides audit, certification and training services in the fields of Quality, Environmental, Health & Safety, Energy Management, Information Security Management, IT Service Management, Business Continuity Management, TickIT and EU Electronic Signatures Directive 1999/93/EC.

The Challenge
Certification Europe regularly sends out important documents to its clients such as audit reports and certificates of compliance. These documents were sent out in Adobe PDF format via email and in hard copy via the postal delivery system. Certification Europe sought a solution that protected the integrity of the electronic versions of these documents and provided assurance of the author’s identity to the recipient. It was important for Certification Europe that the solution was user-friendly and did not add complexity to either their internal processes or the client experience.
Post.Trust Solution
Post.Trust provided Certification Europe with a number of options to meet their needs. After discussing the various options with Post.Trust, Certification Europe elected to go for an electronic document signing solution whereby the documents would be digitally certified using a Post.Trust for Adobe Certified Document Services (CDS) digital certificate - Post.Trust I.D. This certificate is chained to the Adobe Root certificate embedded in Adobe products Acrobat® and Reader® giving automatic trust to the signature - no additional software or configuration is required by the recipient of a certified document to validate its authenticity.

The Result
Adobe® PDF documents are now digitally certified using a Post.Trust for Adobe CDS credential issued on a secure SafeNet iKey 2032 USB token resulting in process efficiencies. The digital signatures are automatically trusted whenever the certified documents are opened in Adobe® Acrobat® 6 or Reader® 6 software and later because trust is built into the software. In addition to process efficiencies, the solution provides assurance of author identity and validation of information integrity for any Adobe® PDF documents Certification Europe distributes electronically to its clients. For the client it provides assurance that the document came from a trusted source, Certification Europe, through the trusted green checkmark/blue ribbon experience when they open the document.
